BearBellies
I love highly detailed things and find it incredibly difficult not to put lots and lots of detail in my work.
Here are a few examples of my acrylic on canvas paintings that make the 'bears belly'.
Bear Bellies is an extension of my embroidered bears. I love creating the embroidered bears but find that the length of time it takes me to create one bear disproportionally long. If I charged by the hour I think it would price my bears well out of the market!
I wondered one day if I could use my bears as a medium for my paintings, so they themselves would become works of art.
Papier Mache was the best medium I found to use for the bellies, this allowed multi layered acrylic painting which could be highly varnished and then the whole panel sewn into a bear.
I have only just scratched the surface of what I want to create with these panels, at the moment I have produced my Elvis Bear which features his teddy Mabel, who resided at Wooky Hole Teddy Bear Museum as the prize exhibit. Unfortunately poor Mabel met a sticky end when one of the Doberman Guard dogs attacked and destroyed her one fateful night. So this panel is dedicated to the memory of Mabel and of course to the Elvis Hit 'My Teddy Bear' The second panel is a study of three bears in a wood, a modern interpretation of the Teddy Bears Picnic. I particularly like the little bear in the centre playing with his toes.

I have a lot more bear bellies in the pipeline which I can't wait to get started. Three I have painted recently include The Madonna and Child, Jane Austen and one inspired by a painting by Alphonse Mucha which are all acrylics on canvas and are ready to be sewn into awaiting bears. I will also be working to commissions if perhaps you would like a portrait of family or friends, a favourite pet or perhaps even a picture which means a lot to you. Just send me an email and we will see what we can do.
